Digital News Guru Mumbai Desk:
Kapil Sharma Under Security Due to Canada Cafe Shootings
Comedian and actor Kapil Sharma has been placed under enhanced security in Mumbai after two alarming shooting incidents took place at his newly opened café, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. These twin attacks, both within a month of each other, have ignited serious safety concerns—not just for the café but for Sharma himself and his family.
A Growing Threat
The café officially opened its doors on July 4, 2025, marking Sharma’s venture into international hospitality. However, just days later, on July 10, unknown assailants fired approximately nine to ten rounds at the establishment. Windows were shattered, but fortunately, no one inside was injured. This initial attack was later claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, a designated terrorist and affiliate of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) group, who cited being offended by comments he believed were made on Sharma’s show about Nihang Sikhs.
Shockingly, a second, more brazen shooting occurred on August 7 (some reports say August 8), at approximately 4:40 a.m., with at least 25 shots fired, causing significant damage to both walls and windows. Again, there were no casualties.
Menacing Warnings from Gangs
What makes these attacks particularly troubling are the chilling threats issued alongside them. A social media post purportedly from Goldy Dhillon, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the August shooting. The post stated that Sharma had “not answered the call,” so “we had to take action,” and ominously warned that “the next action will be taken soon in Mumbai.”
An audio clip from an operative known as “Harry Boxer,” affiliated with the Bishnoi syndicate, echoed these sentiments. He declared that anyone working with Salman Khan—who appeared in Sharma’s Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil Show—would not be spared, and that his group would go “to any length necessary to kill” producers, directors, or actors associated with him.
These threats harken back to past tensions involving Salman Khan and the Bishnoi community. Khan has received high security since April 2024, following another shooting at his Mumbai residence, after being accused of hunting blackbucks—a sacred animal to the Bishnoi—during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998.
Swift Response from Mumbai Police
In light of the mounting threats and transnational nature of the attacks, the Mumbai Police moved quickly to bolster security around Kapil Sharma and his family. A senior police official confirmed that “adequate security” has been provided, although specifics remain undisclosed.
Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) Satya Narayan Chaudhari affirmed that the police are taking “utmost precaution to safeguard” the comedian and his family. An officer emphasized it’s essential that “no harm can be inflicted” on them.
Media outlets noted a visible police presence at Sharma’s Oshiwara residence in Mumbai, with security stepped up following the first shooting. The second attack prompted a renewed review of his protection arrangements.
Investigation and Wider Implications
Investigations are ongoing, both in Canada—where the Surrey Police Service and Delta Police are probing the shootings—and in India, where authorities are assessing the broader threat.
Given Sharma’s celebrity and his public persona, the stakes are high: these are not random acts of violence, but potentially politically or ideologically motivated attacks with cross-border coordination. Gang members seem to be challenging Bollywood itself, utilizing intimidation to broaden their influence.
Sharma’s Position and Public Impact
Kapil Sharma, known for his wit and wide-reaching platform, has not publicly issued a statement about the attacks. Sources suggest he is cooperating fully with both Canadian and Indian authorities.
Beyond personal safety, the incidents have broader resonance. They underline the reach of organized crime syndicates across borders, and how entertainment figures can become targets due to perceived allegiances or any perceived affront to ideological groups. For fans and citizens, these incidents underscore chilling vulnerabilities—especially for those in the public eye.
Conclusion: Laughter Under Siege
Kapil Sharma’s comedy brought light into living rooms across India. Yet, in the wake of these shootings and threats, even a humble café has become a battleground in a shadowy conflict between criminal gangs and cultural icons.
Mumbai Police have responded decisively. But the challenges remain complex: investigations span continents, the threat remains nebulous, and the safety of public figures like Sharma is being tested in new and unsettling ways.
As the story unfolds, it brings into sharp relief the intersecting worlds of entertainment, crime, and transnational ideology—and the stakes when laughter meets lethal intent.
