Thailand approves free- visa entry for Indian and Taiwanese tourist

 

Thailand will allow free-visa entries to Indian and Taiwanese tourist for six months

which is from November 10 to May 10, 2024 , a kind of a good news for travellers. A policy introduced to attract visitors to visit Thailand in tourism season. Also Indian and Taiwanese tourist can stay upto for 30 days, said by the spokesperson of Thai government, Chai Wacharonke. After Sri- Lanka, who had already introduced the free-visa entry to the seven countries – India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand till March 31 under the “Pilot Programme” , Thailand is the second country to offer free-visa access for Indian tourist as we shares bilateral ties with each other.

As per news reports, prime minister Srettha Thavisin announced on Tuesday that Thailand will offer visa free entry to Indian and Taiwanese tourists. Tourists from India and Taiwan will be allowed to stay for upto 30 days under the six-month trial which will start next month. “It’s a great move

Thailand’s Tourism Sector Authority:-

Thailand is a developing country whose economy is dependent on export as Thailand is the ninth- largest economy ot the Asia but in any country, there is a huge role to tourism sector in one’s economy. Thailand offers a great tourism but there was huge impact of covid pandemic on Tourism of Thailand which currently shown recovery. Tourism sector contributes 883 billion Thai baht in the GDP of Thailand as of 2020.The tourist from Countries – Malaysia, India and Singapore visits the most as of 2022. For Indians , Thailand is one of the most affordable destination to visit. In Thailand there are beautiful beaches, nature reserves, rustic countryside, Misty hill stations, fascinating cities with beautiful temples specially nightlife and delicious food that too in affordable prices all these attracted the bigger number of tourists. Thailand is very famous among Indians as it has become of their favourite and affordable international destination to visit.

Objective of free-visa policy:-

During the COVID-19 Pandemic there were strict lockdown in almost all the nations of the world which also includes Thailand of which tourism sector impacted worst. To attract the tourists from all over the world Thailand approves free-visa access to the 64 countries, as tourism sector contributes to the growth of country’s economy.

India-Thailand relations:-

India and Thailand, located in each other’s extended neighbourhood.
Both countries also share maritime boundary in Andaman sea. In Thailand, there are many Buddhist temples which share link of Buddhism with India.
External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industries Minister, Piyush Goyal visited Thailand to attend “ASEAN Summit” in 2019. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had also visited for a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Thailand, General Prayut Chan-O-Cha.
There is an Indian Cultural Centre was opened in Bangkok in 2009 which later renamed as ‘Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre’
Memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of education was signed in 2005.
There are major Indian industries in Thailand – Tata Motors, Tata Steel , The Aditya Birla group etc.
MoU between Port Authority of Thailand and Navayuga Container Terminal (Krishnapatnam Port), Kolkata Port Trust, Chennai Port Trust and Vishakhapatnam Port Trust were signed in 2019.
The 5th India – Thailand Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) were held in Bangkok on 18 March 2019.
Both the countries share good bilateral relations with each other. From January to October 29, there were 22 million visitors to Thailand who generated revenue worth 927.5 billion baht, or $25.67 billion. According to the ministry of tourism data, as of September 2023, India is the fourth country after Malaysia, China, and South Korea in the tourism industry in Thailand.
