National Education Day 2023 : objectives are to strengthen India’s educational institutions and to raise the quality of education to greater heights.

National Education Day 2023:-

National Education Day which celebrated on 11 November every year. This day marks the birth anniversary of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, who had played a significant role in shaping the education system of the country. On this day we remembers him for his exceptional contributions in education sector. We observed this day as a celebration of importance of education and its great impact on our lives.

On this day, schools and colleges organised various types of programs and seminar to make the day remarkable and to make the people aware of the importance of education. The theme of this year of the education day is ‘Embracing Innovation’ which highly promotes the creative and progressive teaching methods and the importance of innovation.

About Maulana Abul Kalam Azad:-

His full name was Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al- Hussaini Azad who was born on November 11, 1888 in Mecca. His father was a Bengali Muslim of Afghan origin and mother was of Arab origin. His family was settled in Calcutta (Kolkata) in 1890. Azad was a renowned scholar and a poet.

In 1912, he published an Urdu weekly magazine ‘Al-Hilal’ which played an important role in increasing Hindu-Muslim unity but it was banned in 1914 after this again he started publishing another weekly magazine named ‘Al-Balag’ which was also banned in 1916. He also contributed to the establishment of various educational institutions like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), University Grants Commission (UGC) and Secondary Educational Commission.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur and Jamia Millia Islamia, educational institutions are established during his tenure. In 1923, he was also elected as the president of Special Session of Congress and again elected as the president of the Indian National Congress (INC) in 1940 of Ramgarh session. He became the first Education Minister of independent India who served from 1947 to 1958. He died on 22 February 1958 and in 1992, he was awarded the country’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’.

History of National Education Day:-

On this day, our first education minister was born who has immense contribution in the field of education. Before independence as we all know that there was poor condition of education among the Indians as they were not aware of importance of education. But now the time has changed as literacy rate of India has improved a lot. In September 2008, Central govt has announced the day November 11 as National Education Day in which the first National Education Day was inaugurated by by the then President, Pratibha Patil on 11 November at Vigyan Bhawan. Every year we celebrate this day as National Education Day to strengthen the India’s educational institutions and to improve the quality of education.

Importance of Education:-

Education is very important in the view of development in today’s world as education has the power to change our entire life for better. By getting the best education we can reach at the highest position in our professional life. By educating the people we can the society. So in our Indian Constitution, there are also fundamental right, ‘Right to Education’ under article 21-A which was inserted by the (Eighty-sixth Amendment) Act, 2002 which provides free and compulsory education to all the childrens in the age group of six to fourteen years which is a positive step towards education.

So National Education Day has its own importance in the country as the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad said- “You have to dream before your dreams can come true”
