Lucknow, 23 December 2025: In a grand celebration marking the 123rd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Chaudhary Charan Singh, the Uttar Pradesh government organized Kisan Samman Diwas in Lucknow on Tuesday to honor the contributions of farmers, agricultural scientists, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). The event — presided over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath — highlighted the state’s focus on empowering farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity, and reinforcing the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh, widely regarded as a champion of farmers’ rights and rural prosperity.
Tribute to Chaudhary Charan Singh
Kisan Samman Diwas coincides with the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, a towering leader in India’s agricultural politics whose life was devoted to advancing the welfare of farmers. At the event held on the Vidhan Bhavan premises, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid floral tributes to the statue of Charan Singh, recalling his pioneering efforts in abolishing the zamindari system, enacting land reforms, and advocating policies that enhanced farmers’ land rights and economic opportunities.

Honoring Farmers and Agricultural Contributors
A key highlight of the celebrations was the recognition and rewarding of farmers who demonstrated excellence across different agricultural sectors. Several farmers were felicitated with certificates, shawls, and cash prizes for their outstanding achievements in crops such as rice, wheat, chickpea (chana), peas, mustard, pigeon pea (arhar), and sorghum (jwar). A Vishisht Mahila Kisan Award was also presented to an outstanding woman farmer, reflecting efforts to promote gender inclusion in farming.
In addition to individual accolades, representatives from FPOs and agricultural science centres were honoured for their contributions to farming innovation, seed technology, and collaborative farming models. These awards aim to recognize and encourage advancements in productivity, sustainability, and scientific research in agriculture.
Farmers Honoured in Lucknow on Kisan Samman Diwas With Mechanisation Support
In a symbolic gesture to enhance mechanization and ease of work, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented tractor keys to five deserving farmers from districts including Jalaun, Shahjahanpur, Fatehpur, Muzaffarnagar, and Lakhimpur Kheri. He also flagged off 25 tractors, which were distributed to farming families attending the event. These tractors are expected to support farmers in land preparation, sowing, and transport, improving efficiency and reducing dependence on manual labor.

Launch of Seed Park and Agricultural Initiatives
During the event, the CM inaugurated the plot allotment process for the Chaudhary Charan Singh Seed Park at Atari, Lucknow, a modern facility intended to enhance the production and availability of high-quality seeds. Access to superior seeds is expected to play a critical role in increasing crop yields, promoting diversification, and reducing input costs for farmers.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the importance of scientific and technological interventions in agriculture. He highlighted the expansion of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) — now numbering 89 across Uttar Pradesh, the highest in any state — as vital hubs for disseminating innovations, training farmers, and improving farm practices.
Government Support and Policy Focus
In his address, Yogi Adityanath reaffirmed the government’s commitment to farmer welfare and agricultural development. He credited policies and schemes initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such as the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), Soil Health Card Scheme, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, and support for Minimum Support Prices (MSP). These programs aim to improve farm incomes, provide financial safety nets, and enable informed decision-making through soil health information.
The CM touted improvements in agricultural outcomes, including increased production of staple crops and improved profitability for farmers, attributing these gains to greater technology adoption, access to quality seeds, and enhanced irrigation facilities. He emphasized that today’s farmers are more integrated into government schemes than ever before, reflecting a shift toward inclusive agricultural policy.
Addressing Market Challenges
Speaking at the event, Yogi Adityanath also tackled market issues that have historically challenged the farming community. He noted that intermediaries — often blamed for suppressing crop prices — no longer dictate pricing, ensuring that farmers receive fair market rates or government procurement support when needed. Measures to increase sugarcane prices for the 2025–26 crushing season were highlighted as examples of responsive policy action.

Vision for Farmer Prosperity
Echoing the sentiment that agriculture remains the backbone of Uttar Pradesh’s economy, the Chief Minister stressed that developments in the agricultural sector reflect broader progress across the state. He pointed to the adoption of modern farming methods, reduced input costs, and rising yields as indicators of growing confidence and prosperity among farming households.
Conclusion
Kisan Samman Diwas in Lucknow this year was more than a ceremonial event — it was a platform to salute the contributions of India’s farmers, showcase policy achievements, and reinforce the government’s commitment to agricultural advancement. By honoring farmers, scientists, and producer organisations, and by launching initiatives like the seed park, the Uttar Pradesh government underscored a future-focused vision that blends tradition with innovation — ensuring that the legacies of leaders like Chaudhary Charan Singh continue to inspire and shape the journey of India’s farming community.
