Indo-French Film “All We Imagine As Light” Hits Indian Screens

Digital News Guru Entertainment Desk:

The much-anticipated Indo-French film All We Imagine As Light (AWIAL) is all set to make its theatrical debut in India on November 22, 2024. Directed by Payal Kapadia, this film has generated significant attention globally, particularly after winning the prestigious Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The movie is an official co-production between France’s Petit Chaos and India’s Chalk & Cheese and Another Birth, and its release in India marks an important milestone in the filmmaker’s career.

All We Imagine As Light:

All We Imagine As Light tells the poignant story of three working-class women from Kerala, who find themselves navigating the complexities of life in Mumbai. The film intricately explores themes of love, migration, and the emotional struggles of the protagonists, while also touching upon issues of class and identity. With stellar performances by Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, the film offers a sensitive portrayal of the lives of its central characters.

This release is a particularly significant moment for Indian audiences, as it is the first time Payal Kapadia’s work will be shown in theaters across the country. The director herself expressed her excitement about this, noting that the film has been years in the making. “With our partnership with Spirit Media, I am incredibly excited for the next phase. It is for the first time that a film of mine will be released in theatres and Indian audiences will finally be able to experience it on a big screen,” Kapadia shared.

The distribution of the film in India is handled by Spirit Media, led by actor-producer Rana Daggubati. Daggubati has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that Spirit Media is committed to bringing meaningful, unique stories to the Indian audience. All We Imagine As Light will be available in several major cities across India, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, and Kochi.

This wide release underscores the growing demand for global cinema in India, as well as the increasing willingness of Indian film distributors to take risks on international co-productions.

Film made its mark internationally

Before its theatrical release in India, the film made its mark internationally, premiering in France in October and being featured as the opening film at the prestigious MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in October 2024. This added to its increasing reputation as a major work of contemporary cinema.

In addition to its critical acclaim, the film’s visual and narrative style is another highlight. Kapadia’s direction combines intimate storytelling with rich cinematic techniques that transport viewers into the characters’ emotional and physical landscapes. All We Imagine As Light is a deeply reflective piece of cinema that is likely to resonate with both global audiences and Indian viewers, offering insights into the lives of migrant workers and their complex emotional worlds.

As the film continues its journey through international film festivals and theater circuits, it remains a testament to the rising global recognition of Indian filmmakers on the world stage. This release in India is expected to contribute to the broader conversation about the intersection of Indian and global cinema, while also bringing attention to the nuanced narratives that films like All We Imagine As Light represent.

Fans of independent cinema and international film enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting this release, which promises to be a major event for the Indian film scene. It highlights the increasing prominence of independent cinema in the Indian market, and with the backing of Spirit Media, it is expected to generate significant buzz in theaters across the country.
