Hollywood’s biggest awards night, the Oscars are just around the corner. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will be handing out the coveted Oscar statuette to the winners in various categories on March 10 in Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles. Oscars are one of the most awaited ceremonies among film enthusiasts every year.

This time is no different. Ahead of the big day, we bring to you all the information that is necessary so that you are looped in before the Oscars night.Hollywood’s most prestigious night, the Oscars, organised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), is here. Scheduled for March 10 at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, this ceremony promises to honour excellence in film across various categories, capturing the anticipation of film enthusiasts worldwide.

When and where to watch award ceremony:

The Oscars 2024 will commence at 4:00 pm PT/ 7:00 pm ET, marking an hour earlier start compared to previous years. Broadcasting live on ABC, viewers can catch the event. For audiences in Asia, the show will be available on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.

Who is performing?:

The best song nominees will all perform, including Barbie’s Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson with I’m Just Ken. Gosling gave a hilarious reaction to the song’s win at the Critics’ Choice Awards earlier this year – bemused and almost suspicious.

Billie Eilish will also sing her Barbie track, the favourite to win, What Was I Made For?

Who is this year’s host?:

Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars for the fourth time in March 2024. Including his stint at the helm last year, which marked a smooth return after the chaos of 2022’s ceremony when Will Smith slapped one of the awards presenters, Chris Rock.

Kimmel joked when his return was announced: “I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times.” We bet it’s not his last, though.

Why are the Oscars such a big deal?

More formally known as the Academy Awards, the Oscars have been recognising big screen talent since 1929.The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, based in Los Angeles, annually nominate and vote across more than 20 categories including best picture, best actor and best actress.

While film awards ceremonies including the Golden Globes and the Baftas attract plenty of attention, the Oscars is the pinnacle of achievement in the awards season calendar. The awards are voted for by Academy members.
