Fashion stylist Neeta Lulla celebrates her 59th birthday today .
Neeta Lulla is a distinguished fashion professional as well as one of the most celebrated figures in India’s fashion industry. She has worked on the costumes for more than 300 films. She has designed costumes and dresses for various well-known stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Salma Agha, and the late. Sridevi.She is a successful designer who specializes in breath−taking costumes.
Neeta’s education:
When she was at school, she was a tom girl who had little interest in academics. Instead of reading books, she favored extracurricular activities. Neeta graduated with a Diploma In Pattern Making And Garment Manufacture from SNDT Women’s University
Neeta agreed to get married in order to escape her studies at the age of 16:
She is now married to Dr Shyam Lulla who is a psychiatrist. Neeta made the decision to get married in order to forgo a high school diploma and a college degree. Neeta was 16 when she married Shyam, a psychiatrist. “I was told to marry because I never wanted to study,” recalls Neeta whose interest lay in extracurricular activities rather than books.
A year later she had her first child, Siddharth. “My calling was ‘I will sit at home, enjoy, throw kitty parties’,” she says. Instead her husband, with the backing of his parents, sent her to college to study fashion and encouraged her to set up her own label. Three-andhalf years later, she had Nishka, who spent much of her childhood in Neeta’s studio situated in a room in the house. “I tried to imitate what she was doing,” says Nishka. “After school and homework, I was making clothes for my dolls and doing embroidery.”
Controvery regarding death of late veteran actress Divya bharti:
n April 5, 1993, the night that actress Divya Bharti plunged to death from her 5th-floor apartment, Neeta and her husband Dr. Shyam and Divya’s maid Amrita were the only people present there. When Divya Bharti was just returned from a shoot in Chennai and was scheduled to meet fashion designer Neeta Lulla at the former’s residence regarding her upcoming feature Andolan.Neeta arrived with her husband Shyam; everyone had been drinking.
Divya’s house help Amrita had been frying some snacks for the guests while talking to her employer even as guests enjoyed a bit of television. In the middle of this, Divya went ahead and sat on the ledge of the balcony. But as she turned around, the actor lost her balance and fell to the floor. She was reportedly breathing when the paramedics arrived, but soon succumbed to her fatal injuries.
Following numerous investigations, no evidence was found that suspected Neeta and her husband responsible for her death. However, the death of Divya’s maid just a month later raised many questions and brought Neeta back into the limelight of suspicion once again. Despite that, it has also been reported that she and Divya were very close together.
Designer Neeta Lulla on Aishwarya Rai’s bridal outfit:
In a recent interview, Neeta Lulla opened up about how and where Aishwarya gave the designer a brief of how she imagined her bridal outfit to be. It was on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar when the actress was in her reel-life bridal costume.Lulla said, ‘When we were discussing her wedding outfit, she was dressed in her Jodhaa wedding outfit. I remember her saying, I’m not dressing like this for my wedding. I want to dress in Kanjeevaram, so you have to figure out what has to be done for that. Speak to my mother, and you guys do your recce as to where you want to get it woven and what you want to do.’
The designer further mentioned how particular Aishwarya was regarding her bridal-look outfit. While dressed elaborately as Jodhaa, it was clear she did not want something similar. Instead, the actress insisted on sticking to her Tullu roots and opting for a Kanjeevaram saree.
Opening up about more details on her bridal saree and blouse, Neeta added, ‘Because she’s a South Indian, she’s a Tulu, she wanted that culture too. Her cultural upbringing, her cultural values, and everything to exude in her look and her style statement, and that’s exactly what we did. We got the saree especially woven for her, and the blouse was also a very basic 5-inch sleeve blouse like a lot of South Indians wear.’
