Indian Kuchipudi dancer Amarnath Gosh shot dead in United States !
In another tragic occurrence of violence against an Indian in the US, Amarnath Ghosh, a talented Bharatnatyam and Kuchupudi dancer, was fatally shot in St. Louis, Missouri. The distressing incident was brought to light by his friend, television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee.
Debolina Bhattacharjee said in her social media post that
She said that Ghosh was the only person in his family after the death of his mother three years back. His father, she said, had died when he was just a child.
She further urged Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy to look into the matter.
“My friend #Amarnathghosh was shot & killed in St louis academy neigbourhood, US on tuesday evening.nOnly child in the family, mother died 3 years back. Father passed away during his childhood. Well the reason , accused details everything are not revealed yet or perhaps no one left in his family to fight for it except his few friends. He was from kolkata. Excellent dancer , was pursuing PHD , was taking an evening walk and suddenly he was shot multiple times by an unknown. Some friends in US are trying to claim the body but still no update about it,” she said in a post on ‘X’.
Who was Amarnath Gosh?
Amarnath Ghosh, originally from Kolkata, was a distinguished professional in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dance forms. Notably, he was pursuing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Dance at Washington University in St. Louis. With a remarkable proficiency spanning four distinct dance styles, Ghosh was an esteemed alumnus of the renowned Kalakshetra Academy in Chennai.
He was raised in Kolkata, where he learnt the Shantiniketan style of Rabindra Nrita and Rabindra Sangeet.
“He seeks to bring the richness of Tagore poetry down south and inspire young adults and children on the strength of the beautiful evocative poetry of Tagore,” his website, amarnathendra.com read.
He had training from Padma Sri Adyar K Lakshman, Bobita Dey Sarkar, and Sri MV Narasimhachari, according to NDTV.
How was he shot dead in US ?
He was going on a walk in the evening when random strangers fired upon him. The incident took away his life on the spot. His friend includes an Indian influencer, Devoleena Bhattacharjee, who is fighting for him and requesting different personalities to get details about the suspect.
Who Shot Kolkata Dancer Amarnath?
An unknown identity shot Amarnath Ghosh on 27 February 2024. His friends are trying to claim his body, but are unable to claim it. There are no updates about his body at the moment. As per his friends in the US, he gets shot multiple times while doing an evening walk in the US. His friend Devoleena Bhattacharjee is requesting PM Narendra Modi, Dr. S Jaishankarm, and other prominent personalities to get details about the suspect behind her friend’s murder. The case is going on. His fans and friends are mourning his loss.
The uncle of Amarnath Ghosh, whosaid that:
He still has no idea about the details of his nephew’s death even as four days have passed since he was shot dead. “We had informed the district police and administration about what we had heard from various sources. But till today we don’t have any details about his death,” Amarnath’s uncle Shyamal Ghosh said in Suri.
Indians reported dead in the US:
Apart from Gosh, as many as five Indian students were reported dead in separate incidents in the the first two months of 2024. 41-year-old Vivek Taneja also died after succumbing to assault injuries in Washington.
Following up with investigation’:
The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed condolences to Ghosh’s family and friends. In a post on X, the consulate general said that it was following up on the forensic, investigation with police and providing support.
As per details, some Indian communities in the US are trying to make arrangements for the body to be sent to his homeland but are facing difficulties. They have now sought intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the External Affairs Minister to solve this matter.
