19th November : International Men’s Day celebrated around the Globe

International Men’s Day 2023 :

Today on 19th November, we celebrate this day as International Men’s Day every year. On this day we discuss about their mental health, the challenges which they face in their life. Men have a very important role to play in the society but they also have to face many challenges in their every day life which we don’t discuss about them in our life. So in this particular day we discuss about their role, issues , challenges which they face in their life. Men also gone through many tough times but we as a society don’t pay much attention to their problems.

History of International Men’s Day:-

The day was originally founded by the Thomas Oaster in 1992 but it was celebrated first time by the history professor named Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, who was professor at the University which is situated in the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. He celebrated first time this day as International Men’s Day in the memory of his father’s birthday in 1999.

Dr. Jerome wanted to celebrate this day as International Men’s Day as he wanted the society to discuss about the problems and challenges which is faced by men in their life globally. By celebrating the International Men’s Day on this day as he also wanted to unified the football team of Trinidad and Tobago so they qualify the FIFA world cup and can make nation proud.

Importance of the International Men’s Day:-

We usually celebrate this on 19th November to discuss about problems of men and their mental health. In our society men are considered as superior in comparison of other genders so the society have a very high expectations from them. As they have a very important role to play in the every field of society but sometimes they also have to face stereotypes as society expect them to be a strong personality.

In the view of strong personality does not mean to be physically strong but also mentally and emotionally strong. According to society men are not supposed to be cry even in their toughest time which they were taught from their childhood, because if man cry so he is considered as a weak personality because in our society being emotional is a sign of weakness.

So men suffers very challenges because they are expected to be a strong personality not a weak personality. But today its high time for us as a society to change our thinking and need to discuss about their problems their emotional challenges which they face.

Theme of International Men’s Day 2023:-

The theme of this year for the International Men’s Day is “Zero Male Suicide”. This theme highlighting the term ‘suicide’ which are becoming common among the male population in our society. This theme makes us realise that men are very important part of society so we need to help them to tackle their problems and help them to overcome from their mental health issues which is prominent reason of suicide among men.
